Ven. Thubten Chodron (Cherry Greene) is a senior female teacher in the FPMT (Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition), in the Gelukpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Her most current project is the founding of Sravasti Abbey, a place where monastics and those preparing for ordination can learn and practice according to the teachings of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Lucinda Treelight Green, Ph.D. is a Dharma teacher in the Theravada lineage and director of Rocky Mountain Insight in Colorado Springs, Co., USA. She received Dharma transmission from Ruth Denison of Dhamma Dena in southern California, who received transmission from U Ba Khin of Burma. In 1985, she entered a nunnery in Sri Lanka under the tutelage of Venerable Ayya Khema. Joan Halifax is a Buddhist priest and student of Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh. She describes her approach to working with the terminally ill in her article "Being with Dying." Ajahn Sundara, born in France, was one of the first four women ordained in England by Ajahn Sumedho in 1979 in the Thai Forest Tradition of Ajahn Chah. She has been involved in the establishment and the training of the nuns' community at Chithurst and Amaravati Buddhist Monasteries in England and since the late 1980's she has taught and led retreats in Europe and the United States. She is interested in exploring ways of practicing, sustaining, and integrating Buddhist teachings in Western culture. She is currently residing at Abhayagiri Monastery in Redwood Valley, California. | Taraloka | Taraloka is a Buddhist women's community and retreat centre. We hold a year-round program of events and retreats varying in length from one day to two weeks. Karma Lekshe Tsomo teaches Buddhism and World Religions at the University of San Diego. A fully ordained American nun practicing in the Tibetan tradition, she is president of Sakyadhita: International Association of Buddhist Women and has helped organize nine national and international Sakyadhita conferences since 1987. She helped found eight education programs for women in the India Himalayas.
