Elise Anne DeVido is a native of New Jersey, USA. Since receiving her doctorate in History and East Asian Languages from Harvard University in 1995, she has lived in Taiwan and taught history at Tunghai University, National Taiwan University, and National Chengchi University, and has worked as a researcher in the Taipei Ricci Institute. She currently is an associate professor of history at National Taiwan Normal University. She has published various articles on Taiwan’s religions and her book Taiwan’s Buddhist Nuns is forthcoming from SUNY Albany Press. She currently researches the Buddhist revival movement in modern Vietnam.
